Executive Director of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Dr. Imran Sikandar, has responded to a viral video circulating on social media regarding the treatment of a child who was bitten by a snake.

‎‎In an official statement, Dr. Sikandar clarified that no negligence occurred in the treatment of the child, and the claims being spread on social media are baseless.

‎He stated that the snakebite victim was brought to PIMS on July 31 at 8:35 AM, and was immediately provided medical care. The child was given 10 doses of anti venom injection, and a team of senior physicians from the ICU examined the patient during the vaccination process.

‎As the child’s condition worsened, doctors decided to place him on a ventilator. However, due to the non-availability of a vacant ventilator at PIMS, the decision was made to refer the child to a private hospital.

‎Dr. Sikandar further said that before referring the patient, PIMS confirmed ventilator availability at the private facility to ensure continued treatment. He also added that the hospital currently has over 700 vials of anti venom vaccine in stock.
