Polio virus has been detected in environmental samples collected from all seven districts of Karachi.
According to sources from the Ministry of Health, a total of 78 environmental samples were collected from various locations across the city’s seven districts, including 24 from District East, 15 from Keamari, and 14 from South District.
Sources further stated that 7 samples were taken from Korangi, 7 from Malir, 6 from Central, and 5 from West District. After testing, all environmental samples were found to be positive for the poliovirus.
Meanwhile, according to a spokesperson for the Emergency Operation Center, the national anti-polio campaign will begin on September 1st.
The spokesperson added that no polio case has been reported in the city so far and appealed to parents to ensure their children receive polio vaccination drops.
