Reports have emerged regarding a malfunction in the air conditioning system at the Step Down Unit of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Karachi; however, the hospital administration has denied these claims.
According to reports, patients and their attendants have been facing difficulties over the past three days due to disruption in the unit’s cooling system.
Hospital sources stated that the air conditioning system in the Step Down Unit had reportedly remained non functional for three days. A video also surfaced showing fans being installed in the ward as an alternative arrangement. Patients with complex and sensitive conditions are usually shifted to this unit after procedures in the Cath Lab. The ward generally accommodates 70 to 80 patients undergoing treatment.
The hospital administration has denied these reports. According to the NICVD spokesperson, three air conditioners in the Step Down Unit are fully operational, and the issue occurred due to a temporary technical fault in the central chiller system.
The administration said that alternative arrangements were made immediately to ensure that patients face minimal inconvenience. Repair work on the chiller system is underway at a fast pace, and efforts are being made to resolve the fault.
