A new study has revealed that negative experiences in childhood, such as abuse, neglect, family conflict, threats, or financial struggles, can increase the risk of mental stress, anxiety, and physical illness later in life.

The research, published on a medical website, used data from nearly 16,000 people born in 1958. Findings showed that the deeper the trauma in childhood, the greater the chances of depression, anxiety, and chronic pain by the age of 50.

Women were found to be particularly vulnerable, with childhood trauma linked to stomach problems and asthma.

Experts said the study highlights how early-life trauma can affect health for decades, stressing the need to prevent such experiences and provide early support to children who face them.
