Islamabad: The government of Pakistan has approved a major infrastructure project — the M-10 Motorway — aimed at reducing Karachi’s traffic burden, improving transport efficiency, and strengthening the country’s national motorway network.
The 168-kilometer motorway, with 10 interchanges, will directly connect Karachi to the M-6 at Jamshoro, cutting through the Kirthar Mountain Range.
The mega initiative will be developed in two segments:
First segment: Upgrading the 34km Karachi Northern Bypass from ICI Bridge to Hamdard University Chowk into an eight-lane motorway.
Second segment: A 134km six-lane motorway from Hamdard University Chowk to Jamshoro.
Additionally, a 23km stretch linking Hamdard University Chowk to the M-9 will also be upgraded to six lanes, creating a high-capacity corridor from Karachi Port to the national motorway network, bypassing the city’s congested arteries.
Experts believe the project will not only decongest Karachi’s traffic but also significantly improve trade and passenger movement between Karachi and other cities in Sindh.
