CM Orders Resumption of Ghotki -Kandhkot Bridge Work in November

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Thursday announced that construction on the Ghotki-Kandhkot bridge the province’s longest bridge over the Indus River will resume in November once floodwaters recede.

Chairing a review meeting, Shah said the bridge will serve as a “lifeline” for Sindh’s economy, easing traffic flow between Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan. He emphasized that the project will boost trade, connectivity, and mobility in the region.

Officials briefed the CM that the 12.15-kilometer-long bridge, along with connecting roads, has largely been completed. The road from Ghotki to the bridge spans 10.4 km, the Kandhkot approach covers 8.1 km, while the Thull link road measures 4.5 km. All three access roads are already finished.

However, construction was temporarily halted due to heavy flooding, which also swept away a makeshift bridge at the site. The chief minister directed authorities to restart work in November and asked the home minister to ensure strict security measures once construction resumes.

Calling the project “crucial for the national economy,” Shah underlined that the bridge will stand as a landmark of development and resilience in Sindh.
