Dry Skies Across Pakistan, Northern Highlands May See Thunderstorms

Scorching heat grips most of Pakistan, while northern highlands brace for isolated showers.

Hot and dry conditions dominate across Pakistan today, with only northern highlands likely to experience brief showers or thunderstorms.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that a continental air mass is firmly covering most regions, leading to clear skies and an extended dry spell. Major parts of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan are experiencing sunny and warm weather, with no significant chances of rainfall.

In contrast, the northern belt — including upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir — is expected to see partly cloudy conditions. Isolated rain, wind, and thunderstorms are forecast in hilly areas, particularly during the evening and night.

Forecasters indicate that this weather pattern will continue for the next several days, with heat and dryness persisting in the plains. Temperatures are expected to remain above normal in southern and central parts of the country.

Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions against heat exposure, particularly in lowland and urban areas where temperatures may peak during the afternoon. Health experts recommend staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activities in peak sunlight, and ensuring vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly are protected from the rising heat.

Meanwhile, residents and travelers in mountainous areas have been cautioned to stay alert to sudden shifts in weather, including possible lightning strikes, gusty winds, and short-lived heavy showers that may cause temporary disruptions.

The PMD also noted that this seasonal pattern is typical for late September, as dry continental winds prevail before the onset of cooler autumn conditions in northern Pakistan.
