Islamabad: Pakistan’s National Assembly has passed a resolution condemning the alleged misconduct of PTI founder Imran Khan towards senior journalist Ijaz Ahmed.

At the start of the session, members of the Parliamentary Reporters Association (PRA) staged a walkout in protest, claiming Khan used abusive language when Ahmed asked him a question.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar told the House, “Journalists have the right to question and criticize us. We must show tolerance, not hostility.” He also highlighted that after the incident, a targeted social media campaign was launched against Ahmed.

PPP lawmaker Shazia Marri praised Ahmed’s journalistic integrity, while MQM’s Aminul Haq accused Khan of threatening the journalist and fueling online harassment.

The resolution, presented on the Assembly floor, demanded immediate protection for journalists and legal action against those responsible. It also condemned the killing of anchorperson Imtiaz Mir in Karachi and called for a thorough investigation.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan opposed the resolution, saying it would “disrupt the environment of the House.” Despite objections, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq oversaw its passage by majority vote.
