KARACHI – Police arrested three members of a gang involved in demanding extortion from a social activist in Karachi, Dunya News reported.
According to the Intelligence Services Unit (ISU), the suspects were arrested from the Jafar Tayyar area of Malir. The arrested men were identified as Yawar Abbas, Manzar Kazmi, and Mohsin Wasti.
Police said the suspects had demanded Rs140 million per month in extortion from the head of a welfare organization. A case of the incident had already been registered at Tipu Sultan Police Station on September 26.
Investigators added that a pistol and a mobile phone used for extortion calls were recovered from the accused. The group’s ringleader, Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi, has been identified as a known extortionist and blackmailer.
Authorities confirmed that the arrested suspects had demanded money on Naqvi’s instructions, and he had previously blackmailed builders and traders for extortion.
