HONG KONG – China has announced a major step in its education reform by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into school curricula, teaching methods, and textbooks at all levels, from primary to higher education.
The Ministry of Education said the reform aims to strengthen students’ problem-solving, independent thinking, communication, and teamwork skills while also enhancing teachers’ capacity to adapt to new technologies.
Officials highlighted that AI-powered classrooms would provide more innovative and challenging learning environments, helping China build a stronger base of “innovative talent” to drive economic growth.
The announcement follows China’s unveiling of its first national education action plan in January, which set a target of becoming a “strong-education nation” by 2035. The move also comes amid growing interest in AI after Chinese startup DeepSeek introduced a cost-effective large-language model earlier this year.
