Sindh High Court Issues Notices to Governor, His Wife in Plea for FIR Registration Over Demolition of House

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the Governor of Sindh, his wife, the Deputy Commissioner East, and others in response to a petition seeking the registration of a criminal case over the alleged demolition of a house under construction.

A two-member bench, headed by Acting Chief Justice Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput, heard the plea. The petitioner’s counsel contended that his client’s house, located in Gilani Railway Society, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, was unlawfully demolished by officials of the DC East office, police, and railway authorities at the alleged direction of the Sindh Governor and his wife.

The counsel stated that a lower court had previously dismissed the application for registration of an FIR against the respondents and requested the High Court to order the police to lodge a case against the Governor, his wife, the DC East, SSP East, and railway officials.

The government’s counsel argued that the demolition was carried out in response to complaints regarding illegal construction on state-owned land. Meanwhile, the Attorney General, Advocate General Sindh, and TMC Gulshan’s counsel Salman Sabir submitted their power of attorney in court.

The Acting Chief Justice observed that since the respondents have submitted their legal representations, the court will hear all parties at the next date of hearing. The court has issued notices to all respondents and sought replies by November 4.

The petition, filed by Fauzia Nasreen, was originally dismissed by a lower court under sections 22-A and 22-B of the Criminal Procedure Code, prompting her to approach the High Court.
