Islamabad, In a bid to defuse tensions, the federal and Punjab governments have initiated talks with a protesting religious party following a request from JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Sources say Maulana Fazlur Rehman reached out directly to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, urging them to resolve the protest peacefully. He argued the country’s volatile situation could not afford further confrontation.

Officials claim negotiations are underway between the government and the religious party, aimed at an amicable settlement. Meanwhile, protestors’ convoy has arrived in Muridke, where they plan to stay overnight.
