Islamabad— A parliamentary delegation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) met with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi at his residence in Islamabad to discuss the upcoming election for the province’s new chief minister.
The PTI delegation — including Asad Qaiser, Atif Khan, Ali Asghar, Junaid Akbar, and Dr. Amjad Khan — formally requested the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to support its candidate in the chief ministerial race. PPP’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter president Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha was also present during the meeting.
The PTI leaders praised the PPP for upholding democratic norms and urged the party to continue its support in the upcoming election.
Governor Kundi, in response, assured the delegation that Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation would be handled in full accordance with the Constitution and legal procedures. He emphasized the need for political collaboration and inclusive dialogue for the province’s development.
“The province’s peace and prosperity require collective efforts. The PPP remains committed to democratic values and strengthening the democratic process,” said the Governor.
Meanwhile, the PTI has also reached out to JUI-F seeking support for its candidate, Suhail Afridi, who was nominated after Gandapur’s resignation. Other candidates in the race include Maulana Lutfur Rehman (JUI-F), Sardar Shah Jehan Yousaf (PML-N), and Arbab Zark Khan (PPP).
The KP Assembly is scheduled to elect the new chief minister on Monday. According to opposition leader Dr. Ibadullah, opposition parties are considering fielding a joint candidate and withdrawing all other nominations.
Both Dr. Ibadullah and JUI-F parliamentary leader Maulana Lutfur Rehman questioned the legality of the election process, arguing that holding a new CM election before the formal acceptance of Gandapur’s resignation could be challenged in court.
