It is believed that dried figs with olive oil may offer various health benefits. But can combining these two nutritional components enhance their individual value?

Although few scientific studies specifically address the combination of dried figs with olive oil, some existing research has shown possible benefits for both ingredients individually, as outlined below.

Several studies have examined the effects of combining fig extract and olive oil. Findings suggest that the mixture may help reduce the severity of complications and side effects experienced by cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

Another study did not find evidence that this combination alleviates symptoms associated with rheumatoid arthritis. More research is needed in this area.

Dried figs may improve skin health and reduce signs of ageing, such as wrinkles and liver spots, due to their content of vitamin E, vitamin C and calcium.

They may help strengthen bones and lower the risk of osteoporosis, as they contain a good amount of calcium, essential for bone health.

They may support heart and arterial health. Dried figs are rich in potassium and dietary fibre, which could help regulate blood pressure and cholesterol levels, thereby reducing the risk of atherosclerosis and heart attacks.

They may boost immune function and help combat harmful oxidative processes that contribute to chronic diseases. This is often linked to their vitamin C and antioxidant content.

They may support weight loss. Their fibre content can help reduce appetite and promote a feeling of fullness for longer periods.

Meanwhile, olive oil may support heart and arterial health and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks and atherosclerosis.

It may help improve key health markers in people with metabolic syndrome, such as blood sugar levels, cholesterol and inflammation. Olive oil may assist in preventing depression and anxiety, owing to its healthy fat content and may help slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

Olive oil may lower the risk of some cancers, including breast cancer and it may support digestive health and ease symptoms linked to gastrointestinal disorders, such as Crohn’s disease and inflammatory bowel disease.
