Lahore’s city administration has expedited a major safety project to install zebra crossings and warning signboards outside schools located on high-traffic roads, aiming to ensure safer routes for students.

According to officials, 45 percent of the work has been completed within just two weeks. The project, initiated on the directives of Lahore Commissioner Maryam Khan, covers 210 schools under the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL), Lahore Development Authority (LDA), and Cantonment Boards.

The Transport and Planning Authority (TAPA) has so far installed zebra crossings and cautionary signboards at 90 schools, with the remaining work expected to be completed by November 6.

As part of the plan, crossings and safety signs are being placed on both sides of roads facing school entrances. Teams from the district administration, TAPA, MCL, and LDA are jointly carrying out the installations based on lists provided by school authorities.

In areas where signboards already exist, only zebra crossings are being freshly painted to enhance visibility and pedestrian safety.
