NCHR Secretary General Visits Sindh Prisons

Karachi : The Secretary General of the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR), Ghulam Muhammad, visited the Central Prison Karachi and the Women’s Prison today. He was accompanied by DIG Prisons Sindh Ejaz Ali Sheikh and the respective Superintendents, who briefed him on the prison administration, welfare facilities, and ongoing reform initiatives.

During the visit, Mr. Muhammad appreciated the efforts made by the Sindh Government and the Prisons Department for improving prison conditions and ensuring the protection of inmates’ human rights.

He stated that “the construction of new prisons, rehabilitation of existing facilities, and efforts to safeguard human rights are highly commendable.”

The NCHR delegation also inspected the Women’s Prison, reviewing facilities for women inmates and their children. Mr. Muhammad noted that the prison reforms reflect a positive shift toward a more humane and rehabilitative correctional system.

Bilal Kameel, spokesperson for the Sindh Prisons Department, said the NCHR’s visit symbolizes transparency, commitment to reforms, and the department’s dedication to ensuring better prison management across Sindh.
