A lawyer has filed a murder case against the hospital administration after his son died of dengue fever, while doctors have announced observing a “Black Day” today in protest.
In Sindh’s second-largest city, Hyderabad, dengue has taken an epidemic turn. Due to the negligence of the concerned authorities, 20 people have lost their lives to dengue within a month, while hundreds of others have been infected.
The dengue mosquito bite has become so dangerous that Civil Hospital Hyderabad, Shah Bhittai Hospital, Preetabad, and Qasimabad hospitals are filled with patients. There are no vacant beds in private hospitals either, forcing hundreds of patients to remain bedridden at home.
Within just one month, around 16,000 dengue patients have been registered in the city. Panic and fear prevail among citizens, but the administration claims the situation has worsened due to a lack of facilities in hospitals.
Yesterday, the young son of a local lawyer also lost his life to dengue. Following this, the lawyer lodged a murder case at Market Police Station against Civil Hospital Hyderabad’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ali Akbar Dahri, and other doctors.
The dengue issue in Hyderabad has now reached the courts and police stations. Doctors and lawyers have come face to face, while health department officials remain completely absent from the scene.
Instead of improving healthcare services after the FIR was filed, doctors and paramedical staff have gone on protest. Yesterday, the Outpatient Department (OPD) at Civil Hospital was boycotted, while the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) Teachers Association announced the observance of a Black Day.
Under the Black Day observance by the LUMHS Teachers Association, the OPD at Civil Hospital will remain closed today, and private clinics will also be shut. The association warned that if the case is not withdrawn, the scope of the protest will be further expanded.
