November 5, 2025:

Stargazers across Pakistan to witness the year’s biggest and brightest “Beaver Supermoon” lighting up the evening sky tonight

Pakistanis are set to witness a dazzling celestial display this evening as the year’s largest and brightest “Beaver Supermoon” graces the night sky. According to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the Moon will appear 9.7% larger and up to 16% brighter than usual when it reaches its peak illumination at 6:19 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST).

Astronomers explain that this stunning phenomenon occurs when the Moon reaches its closest point to Earth, known as perigee, while simultaneously being in its full phase. During this alignment, the Moon will be approximately 221,817 miles (357,000 kilometers) from Earth — one of the shortest distances recorded this year.

The Beaver Supermoon is the second of three supermoons of 2025, following October’s lunar event. The final supermoon of the year is expected in December. Sky watchers across the country — especially in cities like Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad — are encouraged to look toward the eastern horizon shortly after sunset for the best view.

Experts suggest that while the Moon may not appear dramatically larger to the naked eye, the difference in brightness and size is significant in astronomical terms. Photographers and sky enthusiasts are advised to capture the Moon early in the evening when it appears near the horizon, creating a more vivid and dramatic scene.

Meteorological reports indicate mostly clear skies across much of Pakistan, offering ideal viewing conditions for the spectacle.

This lunar event, often referred to as the “Beaver Moon,” derives its name from Native American traditions, marking the season when beavers prepare for winter by building their dams.

The Beaver Supermoon promises a breathtaking sight for stargazers — a glowing reminder of the cosmic wonders visible from right here on Earth.
