The Ministry of Health has stated that HIV control is the government’s top priority.
A meeting regarding the increase in HIV cases was held in Islamabad, attended by representatives from United Nations agencies and members of civil society.
According to the official statement, actions have been accelerated under the directives of the Federal Minister for Health, and the Additional Secretary will personally chair the next meeting.
The statement added that the Ministry of Health has directed provinces to enhance their role in combating the disease. The Director General of Health emphasized the integration of HIV services into other health programs.
According to ministry officials, a special program against the disease will be launched in December, and a technical working group has been established by the Ministry of Health.
Officials further stated that the working group includes representation from the provinces, the UN, and the community. Instructions have been issued to improve blood screening and infection control.
The statement also mentioned that the meeting stressed the importance of HIV awareness and a stronger media strategy.
