Trump Claims ‘Eight Planes Shot Down’

In another bold statement,U.S. President Donald Trump has reignited his claim of brokering peace between India and Pakistan, adding new details to his story and raising the number of planes “shot down” from seven to eight.

Speaking at an event in Miami, Florida, on Wednesday, Trump asserted that both South Asian rivals agreed to a ceasefire only after his intervention and trade pressure. “A day later, I got a call saying, ‘We made peace,’” Trump said proudly, claiming his tariffs forced the two nations to halt hostilities.

Trump stated that during his trade negotiations with India and Pakistan, he learned they were heading toward war. “They are two nuclear nations. I told them—no trade deals unless you agree to peace,” he said, adding that both governments were shocked by his firm stance.

According to Trump, the conversation took place on May 9, and the following day, May 10, 2025, both countries publicly declared a ceasefire. “Isn’t that great? Tariffs did that,” he told the cheering audience.

Trump further explained that he had imposed a 25% tariff on India and a 19% tariff on Pakistan. Later, he increased India’s tariff to 50%, criticizing New Delhi’s purchase of Russian oil and its alignment with BRICS an alliance he accused of supporting anti American policies.

While his claims have not been officially confirmed by either India or Pakistan, Trump continues to present himself as the key peacemaker who “ended eight wars in nine months” during his presidency.
