Pakistan’s premier domestic women’s cricket event — the National Women’s One-Day Tournament — is all set to begin tomorrow (Thursday) in Faisalabad, bringing together the country’s top female cricketers for a month-long competition organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The tournament will feature five teams, competing in a double round-robin format, with the top two sides qualifying for the final scheduled on December 6. Matches will be held at Iqbal Stadium and the PCB High-Performance Centre Ground, while one fixture between the Challengers and Strikers is slated for November 22 at Jawad Club Cricket Ground.

According to PCB, the winning team will take home PKR 1.5 million, while the runners-up will receive PKR 1 million. The competition is seen as a key step toward strengthening the women’s domestic structure, especially with growing interest in Pakistan’s female cricket scene.

This year’s tournament is expected to spotlight several national players, including Fatima Sana, Nida Dar, Sidra Ameen, and Ghulam Fatima, alongside promising youngsters who impressed during the recent T20 event. Officials believe this championship will help selectors identify new talent for upcoming international assignments.

PCB’s Women’s Wing Head, Tania Mallick, said the board aims to provide consistent opportunities for women cricketers.

> “Domestic cricket is the foundation of our national team’s success. We want to make sure every emerging player gets enough match experience at the top level,” she noted.

The tournament not only promises competitive cricket but also marks another stride toward promoting women’s sports visibility in Pakistan.
