RAWALPINDI: The 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference has stressed the need for stronger governance, enhanced intelligence-based operations and improved police capabilities as part of efforts to counter terrorism in Pakistan.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir chaired the conference at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The forum reviewed the prevailing security situation and reaffirmed the need to maintain a high level of operational readiness. It also praised intelligence-based counterterrorism operations conducted by law enforcement agencies. Participants offered prayers for members of the armed forces, law enforcement personnel and civilians who lost their lives in defence of the country and paid tribute to their sacrifices.
The conference stressed that counterterrorism operations should be supported by effective administrative and governance measures. It also called for strengthening governance at the grassroots level, improving public communication and enhancing police capacity. According to ISPR, the forum maintained that Pakistan has the right to take targeted action in self-defence against terrorism emanating from Afghanistan.
The commanders also emphasised the importance of internal stability and said any attempt to create violent unrest or a May 9-like situation would be dealt with in accordance with the law and through decisive action. The forum welcomed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye and highlighted its role in strengthening defence cooperation among the three countries.
On Kashmir, the conference reiterated Pakistan’s position that the dispute should be resolved in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Field Marshal Munir directed formations to continue strengthening intelligence-based operations while improving defensive capabilities through modern technology, training and integration across different domains of warfare. He also reaffirmed the armed forces’ commitment to protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security.
