Islamabad — Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has questioned why Defence Minister Khawaja Asif remains a member of the federal cabinet following controversial remarks reportedly made about Rawalakot.

Speaking during a political gathering and later addressing the media, Bilawal criticized the minister’s comments, arguing that public office holders should be held accountable for statements that generate controversy or provoke public concern. He said that senior government officials must exercise caution when speaking on sensitive national issues.

The PPP chairman questioned the government’s response to the remarks and asked why no disciplinary action had been taken against the defence minister. According to Bilawal, cabinet members are expected to uphold high standards of responsibility and ensure that their public statements do not create unnecessary tensions.

The controversy surrounding Khawaja Asif’s comments has sparked debate among political parties, lawmakers, and social media users. Opposition figures have called for greater accountability, while supporters of the minister argue that his remarks have been misunderstood or taken out of context.

In response to the criticism, government representatives have defended Khawaja Asif, maintaining that his comments should be viewed in their full context before any conclusions are drawn. Some officials have dismissed calls for his removal from the cabinet, describing them as politically motivated.

Political analysts say the dispute highlights the continuing tensions between major political parties as they compete to shape public opinion on national issues. They note that statements made by senior ministers often attract significant scrutiny due to their potential political and diplomatic implications.

The debate has also fueled discussion within Parliament, where lawmakers from different parties have offered varying views on whether the remarks warrant formal action. Several members have emphasized the importance of maintaining respectful and responsible political discourse.

As the controversy continues, attention remains focused on whether the government will address the criticism directly or allow the matter to fade from public debate. For now, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s comments have added fresh political pressure on the government and renewed calls for accountability within the cabinet.

The issue is expected to remain a topic of discussion in Pakistan’s political circles in the coming days as parties continue to exchange views over the remarks and their consequences.
