PCB–Latif dispute concludes as former captain withdraws statements

KARACHI: The long-running rift between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and former national captain Rashid Latif finally came to an end on Saturday after Latif unconditionally took back the remarks he had previously made about the board.

The issue surfaced when Latif hinted that Mohammad Rizwan’s removal as ODI captain was linked to the wicketkeeper’s public support for Palestine. His comments prompted the PCB to lodge a complaint with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). Consequently, Latif was directed to appear before an investigation officer at the NCCIA’s Lahore office on November 17.

Following this, the former wicketkeeper turned to the Islamabad High Court, challenging the inquiry and calling it unlawful.

Latif later issued a detailed public apology on X, clarifying that he never intended to accuse any player, PCB official, or stakeholder of misconduct.

“I would like to address my recent remarks made on social media and in interviews regarding surrogate advertising. My primary concern was about possible breaches of the advisory issued by the Government of Pakistan on such advertisements,” Latif wrote.
