ISLAMABAD: Security across the federal capital has been tightened after a suicide attack on the Federal Constabulary (FC) Headquarters in Peshawar earlier on Monday, prompting authorities to place Islamabad on high alert.

Officials said police have set up strict checkpoints at all major entry and exit routes of the city to monitor movement. Security has also been reinforced around key government offices and the Red Zone, where public transport passengers are being asked to show identification.

At Faizabad bus terminal, authorities are documenting passengers’ CNIC numbers, while transport operators have been instructed to share passenger details with nearby police stations. Officials say these steps aim to safeguard citizens and prevent any security breach.

Earlier in the day, security forces foiled a major suicide assault on the FC Headquarters in Peshawar, killing three attackers. According to CCPO Peshawar, the first bomber detonated himself at the main gate at 8:11 a.m., while two others tried to force their way in but were shot dead by FC personnel.

Three FC officials embraced martyrdom during the confrontation, while two others sustained injuries and were shifted to the hospital for immediate treatment.

Two loud explosions shook the Saddar area, shattering windowpanes of nearby buildings. Police quickly sealedthe area and launched a search operation to ensure no additional threat remained.

IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfikar Hamid praised the swift response of the FC team, saying their bravery prevented a far greater tragedy.
