Islamabad: The Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO) has released a fact sheet on violence against women (VAW) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for January to June 2025, revealing 916 reported cases in six months, none of which resulted in convictions.

According to police data obtained under the Right to Information Act, an average of five women were subjected to violence daily in the province. The highest number of cases (466) were registered under abduction charges, followed by domestic violence (234), rape (112), honor killings (63), and cases under the Gaag Act (41), which aims to prevent forced marriages.

Out of the 916 registered cases, 801 had chargesheets filed, 86 were under investigation, and 770 remained under trial. No case has resulted in a verdict or conviction, nor has any case been withdrawn.

SSDO highlighted that the data indicates systemic weaknesses in investigations and legal proceedings, with social pressures further limiting women’s access to justice. The report also identified hotspot districts with consistently high rates of violence against women.

The organization called for urgent reforms in the provincial legal system and stressed the need for coordinated action among police, prosecution, social welfare departments, and community stakeholders to improve prevention, reporting, and outcomes of VAW cases.
