Religious freedom concerns have intensified in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir after a sweeping crackdown on mosques and madrassas. Authorities have launched a new round of inspections, placing Islamic institutions under tight scrutiny.

According to Kashmir Media Service, police in Srinagar conducted extensive raids across the city over the past week. Officers entered dozens of mosques and madrassas, claiming to target what they describe as a “terror support ecosystem.”

The operations involved search teams, executive magistrates and so-called independent witnesses. Police examined digital devices, documents and other materials in an attempt to identify alleged “radical” or “terror-linked” elements.

Authorities argue the raids are part of ongoing counter-terrorism and de-radicalisation efforts. However, religious leaders and rights advocates warn that such actions are eroding basic religious freedoms and deepening fear among local communities.
