A cutting-edge “Weather on the Way” alert system is being installed on the Islamabad to Lahore Motorway (M-2), marking Pakistan’s most advanced real-time weather monitoring network on any major route.
The project is a joint initiative between WeatherWalay and One Network, offering hyperlocal weather updates to improve safety for millions of travelers. The system includes 14 automated weather stations, 5 air-quality sensors, 4 visibility sensors, satellite integration, and predictive modeling to monitor fog, rain, wind, and low visibility.
A smart decision-support engine will instantly alert travelers through mobile apps, web platforms, and digital screens at toll plazas. For the first time, motorists, authorities, and motorway operators will access the same real-time weather intelligence to plan safer journeys.
Beyond road safety, the dense sensor network will improve agricultural planning, fog prediction, air-quality tracking, dengue and crop disease warnings, logistics, tourism planning, and environmental protection.
By integrating climate models from Europe, Germany, the U.S., Switzerland, and local data, the system boosts forecasting accuracy across multiple sectors. This marks a major step in enhancing Pakistan’s climate resilience and modernizing its travel infrastructure.
