KARACHI: The Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, today officially inaugurated the newly constructed block of Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) on Shahrah-e-Faisal, Karachi. The expansion will provide state-of-the-art medical facilities to a larger number of patients, further solidifying SIUT’s position as Pakistan’s largest model of free, high-quality healthcare.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Bilawal Bhutto highlighted that SIUT’s expansion represents a significant step towards ensuring equitable access to modern healthcare services for the people of Sindh. He emphasized the provincial government’s commitment to increasing the availability of advanced treatment options, especially for underprivileged patients who rely on SIUT’s free services.

The newly launched block features cutting-edge medical technologies, including dialysis units, transplant facilities, emergency services, and specialized diagnostic departments. The expanded facilities will provide comprehensive care under one roof, with the addition of modern laboratories, outpatient departments (OPD), imaging centers, and fully equipped surgical theatres.

Professor Adib Rizvi, the founder of SIUT, shared his thoughts on the expansion, stating that the new block will help accommodate thousands more patients each year, thereby alleviating the strain on the existing facilities. The expansion is expected to significantly reduce waiting times and provide better healthcare delivery to a wider population.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, provincial health minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, other provincial ministers, government officials, doctors, and members of civil society. This collective participation reflects the collaborative efforts in enhancing Pakistan’s healthcare system and ensuring that quality care remains accessible to all, regardless of socioeconomic status.

SIUT Karachi’s continuing impact on healthcare

With the opening of this new block, SIUT continues to make strides in the healthcare sector, strengthening the medical infrastructure in Karachi and beyond. The new facilities not only offer advanced medical support but also contribute to improving the overall healthcare ecosystem in the province.

By providing free healthcare services to those in need, SIUT remains at the forefront of efforts to address medical disparities in Pakistan, ensuring that the most vulnerable populations have access to life-saving treatments.
