Punjab education authorities have announced a major reform in the Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) examination system, shifting to on-screen marking from next year, with computer science selected as the pilot subject.

Officials said the new system is aimed at modernizing assessment procedures, accelerating result compilation, and eliminating long-standing irregularities in the conduct and marking of board examinations.

The announcement was made by Muzammil Mahmood, Chairman of the Chief Minister’s Task Force on Boards, during a briefing attended by senior education administrators.

According to officials, the initiative is part of a broader digitization drive that will standardize examination rules across boards, introduce biometric verification at examination centers, and revamp practical examination procedures to ensure assessments better reflect students’ actual skills and competency.

Computer science was selected for the pilot phase due to its objective answer format and compatibility with digital marking systems, officials said, adding that the system may later be expanded to other subjects based on its effectiveness.
