Sindh Minister for Health and Population Welfare Dr Azra Pechuho has said that vascular surgery will now also be available at the Trauma Center, while medicines in hospitals are being digitized to prevent their sale outside.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, she said that a digital system for medicines has been launched at Civil Hospital. Through this method, medicines can be easily traced, while actions are being taken to shut down the shops of quack doctors.
The Sindh health minister said that a stroke unit has been established at Jinnah Hospital this year, and NICVD has a separate unit for pregnant women. Pregnant women were dying due to heart attacks.
Dr Azra Pechuho said that old schemes at Lyari Medical College have been completed, and robotic surgeries have also been performed there. A neurosurgery unit has been established at Civil Hospital Karachi, and the master plan of Civil Hospital Karachi will be ready by January. There are 19 chest pain units in Karachi. Treatment of 825 patients has been completed at Baldia Center.
She said that they are working with non governmental organizations for mental health, and Lady Health Workers have been given mental health training.
She said that the MDCAT policy has been finalized. Around five tutors will be sent to private hospitals every year, where they will receive master’s degrees. These tutors will complete their master’s education at the government’s expense to improve the performance of nursing students. Nursing students will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 30,000.
The provincial health minister said that an MoU has been signed with NADRA, and the chief minister has shown interest in it. Children born at home will now also be registered online.
She said that they wanted to start a breast milk bank, but some issues arose. Along with a child’s health, a mother’s health is very important. This year, the Health Department has carried out remarkable work related to maternal health.
Dr Azra Pechuho further said that if parents want healthy children to be born, they should maintain spacing between births. Paramedical staff will be recruited at Jinnah Hospital.
She also said that eight hospitals are planned to be made functional this year. Talks regarding PIB Hospital have been held, and PIB Hospital will become fully functional within a month. Small hospitals will be built in Gulshan Hadeed, Kamal Khan Goth, Ancholi, and Saudabad.
