During the past six months, 21 cases of monkeypox have been reported at Mayo Hospital.

According to officials, nine patients are still under treatment at Mayo Hospital, while samples of three suspected monkeypox patients have been sent to the health department.
The report states that three deaths due to monkeypox were reported in Lahore, and most of the infected individuals are between 20 and 45 years of age. A nurse at Mayo Hospital and two paramedical staff members were also infected with the virus.
According to the report, two children in Lahore have also been affected by monkeypox. It is worth noting that an isolation ward has been established at Mayo Hospital for monkeypox patients.
However, the report says that no patient had any history of foreign travel, which means the virus has spread locally and community transmission is possible. The question arises whether the administration has carried out contact tracing in this regard and whether surveillance has been increased in the affected areas.
The infection of medical staff with mpox is also a matter of concern and indicates a failure of infection control. The infection of a nurse and two paramedical staff at Mayo Hospital is a very serious issue, raising questions about whether the staff had access to proper personal protective equipment and whether they were trained to deal with monkeypox.
