The Peshawar Institute of Cardiology remained at the top of the list of major cardiac hospitals in Pakistan in 2025.
The Peshawar Institute of Cardiology carried out 2,538 heart surgeries in just one year, ranking first among major cardiac hospitals in Pakistan. These included more than 2,000 heart surgeries, of which 316 were open heart surgeries performed on children.
According to PIC spokesperson Riffat Anjum, 127,748 cardiac patients were examined in the PIC OPD, including 22,563 children. During 2025, 19,583 patients underwent angiography and angioplasty, while heart defects in 1,222 children were closed through device procedures.
The spokesperson said that 23,101 cardiac patients were brought to the hospital emergency department. Under the health card scheme, PIC provided free angiography, angioplasty, heart surgeries and other medical treatment to 28,115 patients.
PIC also introduced advanced treatments in the province, including 37 TAVI procedures and 3 Mitral Clip surgeries performed without opening the chest. Patients from other provinces and neighboring country Afghanistan were also provided quality facilities at PIC. Around 1,200 Afghan patients were treated in the OPD, while more than 200 underwent angiography, angioplasty and heart surgeries.
In 2025, PIC once again brought pride to the province by setting a world record after performing 14 TAVI surgeries in a single day, earning an honor for Pakistan.
