In Geneva, the Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication, Ayesha Raza Farooq, held an important meeting with World Health Organization Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on the current polio situation in Pakistan and the ongoing efforts for its eradication.
According to the National Emergency Operations Center, Ayesha Raza Farooq thanked Dr Tedros for the World Health Organization’s continued support and cooperation in polio eradication. She emphasized the need to further strengthen coordination between the Polio Eradication Initiative and the Expanded Programme on Immunization to sustain the gains achieved against polio.
During the meeting, Pakistan reiterated its target of completely interrupting the poliovirus by 2026. On this occasion, Dr Tedros appreciated the measures being taken for polio eradication in Pakistan and assured full cooperation and continued support from the World Health Organization.
