Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik on Tuesday announced his retirement from the Pakistan Super League (PSL), bringing an end to a decade-long playing career in the country’s premier T20 competition. Malik said that while he is stepping away as a player, his passion and commitment to the development of cricket will continue.

“I cherish every single moment and friendship I have made on and off the field throughout my 10 years of the Pakistan Super League as a player. It’s time to call it a day,” Malik wrote in a post shared on Instagram.

The veteran all-rounder added that his “passion and motivation to serve for the betterment of cricket” would always remain.

During his PSL career, Malik represented Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators. He featured in 93 matches, scoring 2,350 runs at an average of 33.09 and a strike rate of 127.78, including 15 half-centuries.

Malik’s announcement comes as the PSL prepares to enter a new phase, with the league expanding through the addition of two new teams — Hyderabad and Sialkot — at the recently held star-studded auction.

The highly anticipated 11th edition of the PSL is scheduled to run from March 26 to May 3, featuring eight teams, with Lahore Qalandars set to defend their title.
