Unemployment among young doctors in Pakistan is becoming a serious problem, due to which thousands of doctors are even willing to accept temporary and unstable jobs.
According to sources, the Health Department recently invited applications for the recruitment of 1,200 doctors on an hourly wage basis in the field, while 26,000 applications were received for these positions. This clearly shows that despite the lack of permanent employment opportunities, thousands of doctors are ready to work in temporary and insecure jobs.
More worrying is the fact that among the applicants were 600 young doctors who hold advanced degrees such as FCPS, MD, and MS, yet remain unemployed. This situation is the result of poor planning and lack of a coordinated policy.
If this issue is not addressed, not only will the skills of young doctors go to waste, but the public will also not have access to quality healthcare facilities. This is not just an employment problem but a reflection of the overall weakness of the health system, which requires immediate and serious attention.
