Bushra Bibi moved to private hospital in Rawalpindi for eye treatment

RAWALPINDI — Bushra Bibi, spouse of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, was transferred from Adiala Jail to a private hospital in Rawalpindi on Friday following a persistent eye complication.

Prison authorities confirmed the move after medical reports suggested the need for specialized care that the jail’s infirmary could not provide. Security remained tight around the medical facility, with police cordoning off key access points as she underwent an examination.

The former first lady has been incarcerated at Adiala Jail for months, a period marked by frequent legal battles and public concern from her party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Her legal team has repeatedly pushed for improved medical access, citing health concerns that have worsened during her time in custody.

“She has been suffering from severe eye irritation and vision issues,” a member of her legal team told reporters outside the hospital. “The administration finally complied after we filed multiple requests.”

While the hospital visit was sudden, it highlights the ongoing friction between the PTI and the current administration regarding the treatment of high-profile political prisoners. PTI leaders have frequently alleged that Bushra Bibi is being held in poor conditions, accusations that the government and prison officials have consistently denied.

Inside the hospital, doctors performed a series of tests to determine the severity of the complication. Sources familiar with the situation indicated the issue appears to be an infection, though full results are pending.

The move back to prison remains uncertain, pending a final medical clearance from the specialists overseeing her care. For now, the focus remains on the immediate treatment of an ailment that has become a flashpoint in the broader political standoff surrounding the former prime minister’s family.
