Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has said that at least one HIV screening and treatment center should be established in every district of the country.
A meeting on the HIV/AIDS situation in the country was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Mustafa Kamal, where a detailed briefing was given on the challenges being faced and the future strategy.
Senior officials of the Central Management Unit and representatives of international partner organizations attended the meeting.
Health Minister Mustafa Kamal said that there is a need to further strengthen HIV prevention, timely diagnosis, and access to treatment.
He directed that at least one HIV screening and treatment center be established in every district of the country and that quality treatment facilities be ensured for people within their own areas.
Mustafa Kamal said that implementation of the recommendations of the Border Health Services Regulation should be made more effective and proper screening of every individual entering through the borders should be ensured.
He said that a proper reporting system should be devised in this regard, as timely diagnosis of all individuals affected by HIV in the country is still not possible. Coordinated and effective practical measures are essential for this purpose, and public awareness is the foundation of an effective fight against HIV.
Mustafa Kamal said that citizens should demonstrate responsibility by getting themselves screened, and the government is committed to resolving this important public health issue on a priority basis.
According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, all partner organizations appreciated the ongoing measures under the leadership of the Health Minister.
