Babar Azam is expected to return to Pakistan’s playing XI for the second Test at Lord’s, with team management moving to stabilize the batting order after a fractured performance in the opening match.

The former captain was rested for the first Test, a decision that drew sharp criticism from fans and pundits alike as the top order struggled to find rhythm. Sources close to the team confirm that selectors are now prioritizing experience over experimentation, viewing the Lord’s fixture as a must-win to level the series.

The move isn’t just about Babar’s return. The team is eyeing a structural shake-up in the middle order to accommodate a more aggressive approach against the moving ball. Pakistan’s inability to build partnerships in the first Test proved fatal, and the coaching staff believes Babar’s presence provides the technical anchor they lacked.

“The pitch at Lord’s demands a different kind of discipline,” said a team insider, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “We needed to balance the side, and bringing back our most consistent run-scorer was the logical step.”

Concerns remain over the team’s bowling workload. With the pace attack showing signs of fatigue late in the first match, management is weighing whether to rotate the seamers. A final decision on the bowling unit is expected during the final training session at the Nursery Ground tomorrow morning.

The pressure on the dressing room is mounting. After a string of inconsistent results on foreign soil, a defeat at the ‘Home of Cricket’ would be a significant blow to the team’s morale and their standing in the World Test Championship cycle.

Pakistan has little room for error. If they can’t find a way to navigate the swing conditions that defined the first Test, the series could slip away before they even reach the final day. For Babar, the task is clear: walk out at Lord’s, anchor the innings, and stop the slide.
