A new laboratory report regarding the polio virus in the country’s environmental samples has been released. Out of 127 samples collected from across the country, 103 were declared polio-free, while the presence of the polio virus was confirmed in only 24 samples.
According to the report, Punjab, Islamabad, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan were found to be polio-free. In January, 127 environmental samples from 87 districts were sent to the National Institute of Health for testing. All 31 samples from Punjab tested negative, while 18 out of 29 samples from Sindh tested positive for polio. In Balochistan, 21 samples were negative and 2 tested positive.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, only 4 out of 34 samples tested positive for the polio virus.
