PESHAWAR, May 19 — At least two people were killed and 11 others injured in rain-related incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, as another spell of unstable weather hit parts of the province.

The deaths and injuries were reported after heavy rain, strong winds and localised flooding affected several areas. Such incidents in KP often involve roof and wall collapses, landslides, flash floods and damage to weak structures, particularly in mountainous or poorly drained districts.

PDMA officials said district administrations had been directed to remain alert and provide immediate assistance to affected families. Rescue and relief teams were also instructed to coordinate with local authorities, especially in areas vulnerable to flash flooding and landslides.

The latest rain spell comes after weeks of weather-related disruption in the province. KP has seen repeated casualties from rain and flooding in recent months, with PDMA previously reporting deaths, injuries and house damage in districts including Bannu, North Waziristan, Abbottabad and others. In earlier updates, authorities said most casualties were caused by collapsing roofs and walls during heavy rain.

Officials have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, stay away from rivers and streams, and follow instructions from district administrations. PDMA’s emergency operations centre remains active for monitoring weather conditions and coordinating rescue work.

The province is considered highly vulnerable during intense rain spells because of its terrain, weak housing in some rural areas and the risk of sudden water surges in streams and nullahs. Even short bursts of heavy rain can trigger landslides or flash floods in hilly districts.

Authorities said relief operations would continue where needed, while injured people were being provided medical treatment. Damage assessment teams are expected to compile details of affected houses and infrastructure once conditions improve.

For now, officials are asking citizens to treat weather warnings seriously. In KP, rain can turn dangerous quickly — and this latest spell has already proved deadly.
