Indian authorities have uncovered a large-scale academic fraud network involving fake university degrees that were allegedly used in some applications for H-1B visas in the United States. Investigators reportedly seized nearly 100,000 counterfeit certificates and forged academic documents during the operation.
According to reports, the investigation identified at least 28 universities allegedly connected to the issuance of fraudulent degrees. Authorities said the fake credentials covered multiple fields, including engineering, nursing, and medical studies.
The H-1B visa program requires applicants for specialty occupations to possess relevant educational qualifications. Investigators believe some of the forged documents may have been used to support visa applications, though officials have not publicly disclosed how many H-1B beneficiaries were directly linked to the seized certificates.
The case has renewed scrutiny of visa fraud and credential verification processes. Authorities in India and the United States are expected to continue examining the extent of the alleged fraud and its impact on immigration procedures.
