SAN FRANCISCO: WhatsApp is testing the return of message animations on iOS, introducing a redesigned visual effect along with a new option that allows users to disable the feature if they prefer.
According to reports by WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS, available through Apple’s TestFlight platform, includes a new message animation feature currently being tested by a limited number of users.
The update comes shortly after WhatsApp introduced a similar animation control setting in its Android beta version. Users can manage the feature through Settings > Chats > Animations, where separate toggles are available for messages, emojis, stickers and GIFs.
WhatsApp had previously removed message animations from its iOS application, causing messages to appear instantly without any visual effects. The latest beta version, identified as WhatsApp for iOS 26.24.10.70, restores the feature with a refreshed design.
Instead of appearing immediately, message bubbles now fade into view while slightly increasing in size before settling into the conversation thread, creating a smoother and more dynamic messaging experience.
The feature is currently available only to a small group of beta testers and has not yet been rolled out to all users.
WhatsApp has not announced an official release date for the feature. However, ongoing testing on both iOS and Android suggests that a wider public rollout could take place in the near future.
