Karachi: An investigative report has identified the reuse of syringes as the primary factor behind a number of HIV infections linked to Valika Hospital, raising serious concerns about infection control and patient safety.

According to the report, preliminary findings indicate that unsafe medical practices, particularly the repeated use of disposable syringes, may have contributed to the transmission of the virus among patients. Health authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the reported cases.

Officials said an inquiry was launched after several patients tested positive for HIV. Investigators reviewed medical records, interviewed healthcare staff, and inspected hospital procedures to determine the possible source of the infections.

Health experts stressed that disposable syringes should only be used once and safely discarded after each patient to prevent the spread of blood-borne diseases. They emphasized that strict adherence to infection prevention protocols is essential in all healthcare facilities.

Authorities have stated that appropriate legal and administrative action will be taken if negligence or violations of healthcare standards are confirmed. They also said efforts are underway to strengthen monitoring and improve infection control measures in medical institutions.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials are expected to release further findings once the inquiry is completed.
