According to new figures released by the World Health Organization, 600 people have died from the Ebola outbreak in eastern Congo.
Just three days ago, reports indicated that 500 people had died from the outbreak spreading across Central and East Africa, while 1,759 cases had been confirmed.
It is worth noting that the outbreak began in May in Congo and has affected four provinces, with the northeastern province of Ituri being the hardest hit. In neighboring Uganda, two people have also died.
There is currently no vaccine or specific treatment available for the present virus. According to the WHO, clinical trials of a vaccine and treatment have begun in Bunia, eastern Congo.
