Authorities have imposed a curfew in the Khud Kocha area of Mastung district after a coordinated double strike paralyzed local transit and security logistics. The lockdown follows an attack on a passenger bus and the destruction of a critical bridge, maneuvers that security analysts believe were designed to isolate the region and impede first responders.

The violence erupted late Wednesday when gunmen intercepted a passenger bus on the main highway. While the exact casualty figures remain fluid as security forces clear the area, police confirmed multiple injuries. Within minutes of the ambush, a secondary blast targeted a bridge connecting the area to the provincial capital, Quetta, effectively severing the primary supply and evacuation route.

The decision to impose a curfew was swift. The local administration cleared the streets by midnight, citing the need to prevent further movement as security teams conduct house-to-house searches.

“We are treating this as a deliberate attempt to create a security vacuum,” a senior official told reporters on condition of anonymity. “The destruction of the bridge wasn’t just a tactical strike; it was meant to keep us out while the perpetrators fled.”

The timing of the attacks has rattled local residents. Khud Kocha, situated on a vital transit corridor, has seen intermittent tensions over the past year, but the use of explosives to sabotage infrastructure marks a tactical escalation. Provincial authorities have since deployed additional platoons of the Frontier Corps to secure the remaining transit points, though the severed bridge continues to force a detour that adds hours to emergency travel.

No group has claimed responsibility, though the sophistication of the coordinated strikes points to an organized insurgent element.

As the sun rose over Mastung, the streets remained empty. For now, the focus is on clearing the wreckage and establishing a perimeter, but the incident has left the provincial government facing renewed questions about their ability to protect critical infrastructure on the Quetta-Karachi highway.
