KARACHI — Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho has stated that the growing number of C-section (caesarean section) deliveries is a critical factor contributing to the increase in maternal deaths across the province. Speaking at the fourth International Family Planning Summit, titled “Maa Rahe Salamat,” held at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), the minister expressed deep concern over this rising clinical trend. Dr. Pechuho emphasized that the administrative risks associated with multiple surgical deliveries escalate significantly, advising that family planning measures should be heavily prioritized and considered after a woman undergoes her third C-section to safeguard her health.
Despite these challenges, the health minister maintained that Sindh is leading the country in family planning and healthcare initiatives, with the provincial government actively introducing structural upgrades to maternal and newborn services. To ensure safe and accessible deliveries, Dr. Pechuho announced that specialized “Birth Station Centres” are being systematically established across the province to improve healthcare access for expectant mothers. Additionally, the provincial government is working to improve emergency and general transport facilities for women, removing geographical barriers so they can reach vital healthcare infrastructure more easily and safely.
