BUENOS AIRES — Unseen bodycam footage captured from referee Ismail Elfath has gone viral following England’s intense FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final defeat to Argentina, exposing a pointed exchange with Three Lions superstar Jude Bellingham. Immediately after the final whistle of the high-stakes encounter, the ref-cam audio picked up the 23-year-old Real Madrid midfielder approaching Elfath on the pitch. While maintaining sportsmanship by shaking the match official’s hand, Bellingham delivered a subtle, sarcastic parting shot regarding several highly disputed decisions made during the knockout game, telling the referee: “Some shocking ones, but all the best.”

The referee encounter caps off a highly volatile tournament run for Bellingham, who was also caught on camera in an animated mid-game debate with Argentina captain Lionel Messi. Addressing the media post-match, Bellingham played down the exchange as standard, competitive banter over a foul call, recounting that he told Messi he was “tough enough to take it” after the icon complained about a missed challenge. Despite the bitter disappointment of missing out on the final, Bellingham concluded his historic 2026 World Cup campaign on an unprecedented high. During England’s dramatic 6-4 victory over France in the Third-Place play-off, Bellingham scored his team’s sixth goal, officially becoming the first English player in football history to score 7 goals at a single World Cup tournament.
