MUMBAI — Sana Saeed, widely recognized for her iconic role as the young Anjali in Shah Rukh Khan’s 1998 blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, has courageously opened up about her prolonged, decade-long battle with bulimia. In a candid interview with Hindustan Times, the actress reflected on the intense shame, deep confusion, and profound isolation that defined her difficult journey. Saeed admitted that she spent nearly six years struggling entirely in silence because she had never heard of the term “bulimia” and honestly believed her condition was a personal behavioral failing or a “bad habit” rather than a recognized mental health disorder.

The actress revealed that her perspective underwent a massive shift only after she stumbled upon a recovery book that helped her properly identify her eating disorder. “That’s when the real healing began,” she recalled, noting that it required another four years of conscious effort to fully recover. Today, Saeed has achieved complete recovery and states she has never felt more at home in her own body. Reflecting on her past, she highlighted the critical need for widespread mental health education, wondering how much easier her childhood struggle might have been had awareness surrounding eating disorders been prevalent during her youth.
