KARACHI — The Sindh School Education Department has officially announced that all public and private educational institutions across the province will remain closed on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, corresponding to the 20th of Safar 1448 AH, on account of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). According to the notification issued in pursuance of a steering committee decision, the holiday applies to all schools operating under the department’s administrative control throughout Sindh. The solemn occasion marks the conclusion of the 40-day mourning period following the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala, with traditional mourning processions featuring Alam, Tazia, and Zuljinah set to be taken out in various cities.
In a related security measure, the Sindh Home Department imposed a province-wide ban on pillion riding and extended the enforcement of Section 144 across Sindh for another month starting August 1. Under these restrictions, wall chalking, public rallies, demonstrations, and the open display of weapons are strictly prohibited across the province to maintain law and order during the observance.
